In autumn 2011, the famous manufacturer of laser cutting machines decided to enlarge its production, assembly and warehouse capacity in Ditzingen.

Together with TRUMPF and the architect’s office SCD, Losberger developed the industrial hall concept which had been recently implemented. Inside a spaciously dimensioned two-bay steel construction, each measuring 25 x 70 m (eave height 6.70 m), three separated working areas are arranged. One hall will be used for assembly and testing of the customized laser cutting machines, the other building will serve as commissioning and packaging station of the machine parts.

Across the entire width of the hall runs a 6 m projecting canopy, allowing weather-proof loading and unloading of the lorries. Container units with monopitch roof design are annexed on each long side to house the extensive control system for heating, lighting, AC, power supply etc.

The special challenge was to consider the additional roof loads for the cooling systems on the container units as well as suspension loads for the cable ducts and pipelines in both main halls. Losberger solved this requirement by using stronger sized profiles and additional columns. The demanded heat and noise control proof was met by using sandwich elements at roof and side walls. The comprehensive equipment of this nearly 4,300 m² large hall complex included 30 steel doors, 10 double-wing steel doors, 8 insulated sectional doors, aluminium windows and ridge-skylights for daylight conditions.

TRUMPF Project Manager Markus Hoffmann particularly praised Losberger’s flexibility during the planning phase and its reliable compliance with the tight timeframe predefined by TRUMPF. After only 10 weeks of assembly, TRUMPF was able to start with the installation of its work stations as scheduled.
