The Mountain calls Olympia

How the TirolBerg came to Sochi / Tirol and ÖOC use Losberger Palas as the largest winter sports event location world-wide.

The XXII Olympic Winter Games are in full swing. And even beyond the 23rd of February, Olympia will be topic number one in the world of sports. Approximately 2,900 athletes and many coaches and staff from 85 countries travelled to Sochi. With the motto “Bringing the Alps to Sochi", Tirol brings an Alpine feeling to the “Russian Riviera” by the Black Sea. And what was initiated last year during the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Schladming together with Losberger will now be the ideal framework to strengthen the popularity and the image of the Alps as the leading winter sports destination: the unique atmosphere of Alpine hospitality of the “TirolBerg” at the “Austria Tirol House” which is presented in Losberger’s two-storey event hall Palas. For more than ten years, Tirol Werbung GmbH has accompanied the Austrian Ski Association (Österreichischer Skiverband (ÖSV) with TirolBerg to all world championships. The meeting point has proven to be an inherent part of that major ski event. During the Olympic Games, the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) takes the lead. Following a successful new positioning last summer at the Olympic Games in London, the target was to further develop that project. As an exclusive premium partner of ÖOC, Tirol uses the largest winter sports location world-wide to bring Tyrolean hospitality and winter sports competence to Sochi.

In November 2013, the first seven of a total of 16 semitrailers carrying Losberger’s tent components for the Austria Tirol House headed towards the Olympic city. On 10 December – just in time before the official suspension of the construction work – the two-storey aluminium construction was delivered on schedule by the Losberger crew. Subsequently, the interior fitting work could be started. And whereas for the start of the games in Sochi some accommodations could not be completed in time, Tirol and its partners managed to open the Austria Tirol House with local Alpine flair on schedule on the 6th of February.
The event location is situated about 50 km from Sochi in the so-called Mountain Cluster. There, in Krasnaja Poljana, all snow sports and ice canal competitions are hosted. Thus, Tirol will become the meeting place for sportsmen, representatives of sponsors, partners and guests of honour of the ÖOC as well as for the media and fans. As a result of last year’s positive experience in Schladming, Tirol Werbung once again leased the extraordinary cubic Losberger event hall Palas as an event location, one of the latest and most innovative products made by the company located in Bad Rappenau near Heilbronn. The two-storey construction in Sochi is similar to the one in Schladming, but much bigger, with a floor space of ca. 1,000 square metres. Two Palas halls positioned in a right angle towards each other and connected to each other on both floors, provide space for several reception and gala areas, a fully equipped ORF TV studio including control and interview rooms with extra-large window spaces, a media area including a press conference room, a large kitchen, a show stage, additional work rooms and a bar area, the Fire Lounge, where eventful days come to an ideal end at the atmospheric open fireplace. A special loggia on the ground level creates a connection between the interior and the large Après Ski Terrace. Modern and classic lines and “Gemütlichkeit” are well combined in the Austria Tirol House -creating a cosy environment in the middle of the Russian winter. Elegant design and state-of-the-art technology go hand in hand with traditional materials. Double-layered thermal roof sheathing, insulating glazing and sandwich panels in the walls meet sustainable aspects, especially in winter. The clear lines and marked contours of Losberger’s temporary tent hall and an especially developed LED light arrangement paint a media-effective picture of Austria, the ÖOC and its strong partners in the middle of these Olympic Winter Games. By the way, this is not the first appearance of a solution made by Losberger at the Olympic Games: In Vancouver, four years ago, the Canadian Government had a two-storey tent solution erected in the city centre to present the biggest country on the North American continent and its open-minded cosmopolitanism to the numerous visitors from abroad and the locals at the “Canada Pavilion“.
